Arsenal have signed Christian Neelgau from Brentford for a transfer fee of £10 million (€11 million), with a potential add-on clause of up to £2 million.
The 31-year-old midfielder has signed a two-year contract with Arsenal, with an option to extend for a third year.
Player background
Nelgaard needs to wait patiently for a breakthrough outside of Denmark. After leaving Limbi to join Hamburg in 2012, he was plagued by ankle problems and left Germany after one season without getting a chance to play for the first team. Back in Denmark, he spent five seasons at Br ø ndby, three of which were under Thomas Frank, and won the club's Player of the Season award in 2017.
This success brought him the opportunity to transfer to Fiorentina, but Nergao only made six appearances for the first team and left again after one season. In 2019, he reunited with Frank at Brentford and helped the team make its first-ever promotion to the Premier League in 2021, securing a place in the top half of the league twice. He became the team captain in 2023.
